Dr. Alice Villados of the Philippine Academy of General Dentistry, Inc. (PAGD) encouraged the employees of Envirokonsult Equipment and Services, Inc. and Waterkonsult Equipment and Services, Inc. to keep a balanced diet (i.e. eating foods in right proportions) for good oral health.
Dr. Villados was speaking at the Dental Education event held by the AV Gedang Foundation, Inc. and PAGD on Thursday, August 30, 2018, in the head office of Envirokonsult and Waterkonsult in Quezon City.
Here are pieces of advice that Dr. Villados imparted to improve oral hygiene:
1. Brush the teeth three times day for at least two minutes. This should be done after breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
2. Avoid brushing the teeth too hardly as this may thin the enamel or the outermost layer of the teeth and wear away the gums; as such, using soft-bristled toothbrush is recommended.
3. Brush the tongue and gums. Bacteria can build up on the tongue; this may appear as whitish spots stick together on the surface. This cannot be removed by simply rinsing with water or mouthwash hence scraping it with a brush is necessary. Alternatively, spoon can also be used to scrape off the bacteria.
4. Visit the dentist every six months to check the condition of the teeth and gums.
The AV Gedang Foundation, Inc. and Balara Elementary School on Tuesday, August 14, 2018, renewed their Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to extend the Adopt-A-School Feeding Program for another 120 days starting August 20, 2018.
In the previous school year, more than 100 students benefited from the same program which ran for 90 days. This school year 2018-2019, more than 150 selected kindergarten-beneficiaries who are bordering from normal to underweight are expected to join the 120-days program.
According to Vicky Dineros, Corporate Social Responsibility Coordinator of AV Gedang Foundation Inc., the extension and expansion of the feeding program was largely due to the success of the initial feeding program in the same school.
The MOA signing was attended by Joseph Mahusay, Brgy. Captain of Pansol; Cristine O. Villapa, Master Teacher-In-Charge for Kindergarten of Balara Elementary School representing Principal Natividad V. Nacino; and officers of the AV Gedang Foundation, Deborah Simsuangco, Vicky Dineros, and Annabella Gedang.
In another story, the AV Gedang Foundation renewed once more its feeding program with Puypuy Elementary School in Bay, Laguna, for the fourth year, on August 2, 2018.
About 150 kids and parents participated in the first Dental Education with Tootbrushing Drill and Fluoride Application event of AV Gedang Foundation, Inc. held on Thursday (August 9, 2018) at Brgy. Matandang Balara Covered Court.
The event, which was conducted in partnership with the Philippine Academy of General Dentistry, Inc. (PAGD) and the Batch ‘72 of Judge Juan Luna High School (JJLHS), aims to promote good oral hygiene among children.
Dr Alice Villados said that it is important to teach good dental care at a young age so it will become part of the child’s habit as he/she grows old. She added that maintaining a balanced diet and reducing consumption of sugary foods can help children avoid tooth decay.
Meanwhile, Dr Ma.Carmen Aurea V. Santos demonstrated the proper way of brushing the teeth. She reminded the children to brush their teeth 3 times a day, for 3 minutes. Volunteers from PAGD, JJLHS, and AV Gedang Foundation then distributed toothbrush and toothpaste to children. They also assisted the participants on brushing their teeth and applying fluoride.
The AV Gedang Foundation on Monday (August 6, 2018) started its 120-day Adopt-a-School Feeding Program with Puypuy Elementary School which aims to support the nourishment and health of the students.
